School of Minerals, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering

Dr. Harish Ranot

Assistant professor

Dr. Harish Ranot joined the School of Minerals, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (SMMME) at IIT Bhubaneswar as an Assistant Professor in 2026. He obtained his B.Tech. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT (BHU), Varanasi and subsequently earned his M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees from IIT Kanpur. His doctoral research focused on the liquid phase sintering (LPS) of molybdenum using transition metal additives, leading to the development of low-temperature processing routes for refractory alloys through an integrated computational–experimental approach.

Prior to joining IIT Bhubaneswar, Dr. Ranot did his postdoctoral research as a FARE (Fellowship for Academic and Research Excellence) Fellow in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur, where he focused on developing the computational–experimental framework for manufacturing cost-effective multicomponent refractory alloys. He also briefly served as Manager (R&D) at Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), Hyderabad, gaining exposure to industrial research and development activities related to advanced materials.

Dr. Ranot’s research interests include powder metallurgy, advanced sintering science (liquid phase sintering and nano phase separation sintering), alloy design, computational thermodynamics (CALPHAD), refractory metals and alloys, multicomponent alloy development, and processing–microstructure–property correlations. His current research focuses on developing next-generation sintering pathways for refractory alloys through the integration of computational thermodynamics, powder processing, advanced characterization, and mechanical property evaluation.
