Professor B.K. Mishra earned a Bachelor’s from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela in 1981. After a brief tenure at Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys Limited (IMFA), he pursued a Master’s degree at Wayne State University, starting in 1984. He subsequently earned a Ph.D. from the University of Utah, USA.
Following his education and research in the USA, Professor Mishra returned to work as a faculty member at IIT Kanpur in 1993 and continued till 2006. He then became the Director of CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT) Bhubaneswar, a position he held from 2006 to 2017. In March 2017, he was appointed founding Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Goa, where he served until May 2024. He is known for his significant contributions to Mineral Processing, Extractive Metallurgy, and Powder Technology.
Research Interests:
Mineral Processing & Extractive Metallurgy; Particulate Processes and Design; Machine Learning for Industrial Applications; CO₂ Conversion Pathways.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, with industrial support from Tega Industries, Kolkata.

Industry Engagement:
I routinely conduct short-term courses (up to one week) for industry professionals in
Mineral Processing and Plant Design. These courses may be conducted
either at the plant site or at IIT Bhubaneswar, with the course content customized to address
specific industry needs and operational challenges. Interested organizations may contact me
for further discussion.
