Extending the scaling laws of open cellular materials - Dr. Mangipudi's research group
Dr. Mangipudi’s research group shows that the complex effects of the intricate cellular architecture of various random cellular materials can be effectively captured into a mathematically well-defined structural parameter called Genus. Using this genus, they show that there exists a critical value of the genus only beyond which the cellular structures can show any significant load-bearing capacity. Using this genus, they have extended the classical Gibson-Ashby scaling to yield geometry-dependent scaling laws with quantitative predictability.
